Timbaland says at a recent interview with MTV:
"If this album does as semi-well as the last one, I'm done. I'm not going through the stress no more. I will do it for my fans and give it away for free."
"After my last album, I know where my bread and butter is at. I know 75 percent [of the people who buy my album] are women who love Timbaland and most are the women who watch 'Desperate Housewives' and all those others. I did this research. It's the women who watch 'Sex and the City,' 'Desperate Housewives' — all the real go-to-the-bar women like Timbaland, and mostly European women. It lets me know that my fanbase is mostly women and they are from all cultures. So it's not a person who loves mostly hip-hop. It's a person who loves everything besides hip-hop."
"I was done with hip-hop a long time ago. Once my generation left, I left. I do it, but there's nobody from my generation besides Jay who's doing it. I look at Lil Wayne as being from my generation. Some people are still acceptable. Kanye is acceptable from my generation."
"It's just not the same. By it not being the same, I kind of fade to black. I did music [on this album] that fits where I was going to in my age bracket. 'What does Tim listen to in his car all the time?' I love '80s music. So how do I infuse '80s with modern-day music? You Timbo the King, you gotta figure it out. I figured it out a couple of years ago with Nelly [Furtado] and Justin and myself. We had a tremendous run. I think it was good for me to do it that, because some people would say 'Tim is cold.' The same people who smile in my face would be the same ones to talk behind my back. But I got this run, I'm not gonna stop until I wanna stop." - MTV.com

What a bunch of luckin' fies!!!
This is just another way of crying over most fans (especially the urban sect) having a lukewarm response to SV2. Trying to make em feel like they should appreciate any Tim they get...and last I checked Hayes and Billy Blue weren't reggae artists. STOP LYING TIM and start making bangers for 2010. We need new hip-hop bangers (not the sub-par BP3 shit either, cuzzo)
"I figured it out a couple of years ago with Nelly [Furtado] and Justin and myself. "
Come on son...No danja?? smh.
Anyway SV2 is a dope album though.
Seems like The King's (Timbaland's) new album debuted at number 32 on the Billboard 200. Well...first of all, tt shit BB200 doesn't count at all...2ndly, its so sad how pple have gone blind nowadays and have lost taste completely to good music....I think people buy lifestyles these days than good music...Susan Boyle...well I haven't critically listened to her album so I won't criticize...but for sure chris browns album is wack...I can't understand how such a mess could beat SV2 acc. to the fake BB200...
Well...I just hope Tim doesnt gets pissed off but should continue supplying us with creative music...
He should've come correct with this album. He tried to appeal to an audience that isn't checking for him while alienating the audience that was. I'm glad it flopped honestly.
Hip-hop made Timbaland. This, is just the ego talking. When your ego shows, that's when you do your worst. Trust me. One morning I'm saying I'm an awesome driver and that same morning I'm getting pulled over for speeding. Got court later today. SMH.
Remember humble Danja, and how far he got? He got to work with the king.
Maybe if he goes back to Hip Hop he might can get Producer of the Decade like The Neptunes lololololol!
Maybe Timbo needs to do a TIMBALAND album and not a compilation of tracks that he's produced. Thats basically what Shock Value is.
Instead of giving us Shock Value 3, he should consider doing another Tim & Magoo album or something cuz he always goes on about how he's gonna "go left" and he's gone so far away from his roots that its alienating his fans like Dylan said above.
Bring Magoo, Missy, Jay, Danja, back in. When you have a fanbase as big as he did, that loved him as much as they did, why does he feel the need to look elsewhere?
or MAYBE you guys are simply not getting it. Typical bunch stuck in the past I'm afraid.
Bring back Magoo, Missy?? lol Isn't exactly a step forward in terms of new fresh sound which Timbaland is striving for. As he says, he's bored of Hip-hop and I can see where his coming from. I say AGAIN, if you dont like his current music, go and put on the old cds. That would make you feel much better. Timbaland has done enough Hip-hop/Rnb for you guys over the years.
Ego? yes but he has a right given his legendary status, he doesn't feel ashamed and hasn't got anything to prove to anyone. He could do what he wants and those who feel "alienated" simply are not his real fans. They are those who come and go who like good music and that's it. As soon as the standard drops slightly, they feel "alienated" and run off or start overreacting lol.
Bring back Danja? According to Larry Live (the man who introduced Danja to Timbo), Danja decided to move on and pursue his own course. Tim will not beg Danja, just face the facts for the time being they wont be working together again. I love Danja but he still got alot to prove to be put on a par with Tim. Timbaland ofcourse has still got alot up his sleeves and likes to involve different producers to take some of the shine.
Jay Z? His recent work with Jay-Z proves Tim hasn't totally abandoned Hip-hop. I dont know about you guys but the Venus vs Mars track is bananas! Off That is certainly a grower over a certain time. Not bad but you guys make it sound as if Tim's level has reached crisis point lol.
Shock Value II is better than most music out there. Whether it flops, Tim wont lose sleep over it. Win or lose, he's still gonna be around and bringing that fire eventually.
You don't get my point, Bliza. You're saying that bringing back Missy and Magoo isnt a step forward. IMO the problem is with Timbo trying so hard to go "forward" with a new sound that he's forgot about the old sound that still works and the fans are missing that.
Its like this with everyone. Take Eminem and this new sound/accent he's brought to his latest album, Relapse. People complained so much, he's gone back and completely redone Relapse 2 because fans miss the old Slim Shady.
Well he might return to the old sound just for fun like he says but you have to understand producers get can easily bored so why hang on to the past? He can keep his fans happy but if he's not happy then it cant work. Why should he make music that he's not happy about? For the fans to enjoy it, Tim needs to enjoy it aswell. I more than anyone is a fan of his old sound but there comes a time when you need to extend yourself as a producer. That's how real producers should think. Eminem hasn't got that.
You have to understand like Browser20 mentions in today's laughable music industry, people are getting away with selling some unspeakably dreadful music. That's one of the reasons Eminem and Timbaland arn't selling as much as they should. Whilst many of us original fans are grateful for the old Tim sound, others are still yet to appreciate that particular piece of work. I know some people who even say those old Timbaland beats sound the same and dont feel particularly inspired by them lol.
The problem actually is Tim hasn't achieved as great a sound on SV2 as it should have been. SV2 is a pop/rock record mainly and will never work for people like you perhaps but it does fail to deliver anything ground breaking I must admit. That is where the problem lies, not whether he should go back to his old sound.
People don't sell records because the demographic who's supposed to be buying their CDs is downloading them off the Internet with no intention of actually going to Target and copping the disc.
How is someone gonna brag about being #1 on the Billboard, yet only move 100,000 or so units in his/her first week (hypothetical situation)? I look at those sales stats and chuckle inside.
