Also, I see no reason to say this was influenced by Bach's Cello Suite 1, and CERTAINLY not copied. This arpeggiated style has been prevalent in cello and other stringed music for ages, and the origin of influence of the cello part in this song is no more likely to come from Cello Suite 1 than any of the hundreds of other pieces utilizing this technique. Is there some interview where the influence of this song is discussed? If so, I'll gladly swallow my words. :)
^^well I can clearly hear that is has been copied in some way, wouldn't necessary say it's a problem as long as it is a credited, you can deny their sound very similar... If not the same
Haze, what I'm saying is there's no way of knowing it was copied from that particular piece, because there are MANY like it. It's pure speculation. Yes, there are obvious similarities, but unless Ryan Tedder said, "This was inspired by Bach's Cello Suite 1," that's where it ends.
Although that sequence is common with the cello, no doubt that it is in inspiration from Bachs Cello Suite, I say this because even the pressure and and tonal setting of the cello is in near the same tempo of Bachs piece and the melodic sequence is the same sequence of notes. of course they did a modern twist to it. It may have not been copied, but I am sure that whoever the person plays the cello was well aware of the fact it sounded like bachs cello suite, someone who plays cello I am certain they are aware of classical pieces, especially someone with the stature of Bach
It does indeed sounds like a variation on the intro theme of Bach cello suite no. 1. This could have been an intentional reference to the Bach suite or an unconscious one. Either way it sounds amazing.

For those who are wondering, the intro to this song, that cello was influenced, if not almost copied from Bachs Cello Suite No.1
Now THIS is good stuff. The cello is wonderful. Such a breath of fresh air...
